Bearded Backchat with Ami from My Mummy Spam

Bearded Backchat is a chance for me to interview PR people and fellow bloggers.  This week it’s Ami from My Mummy Spam.

Who are you?

Ami from My Mummy Spam…Blogger, vlogger, mumma and wife and general life lover!

What is your “day job”?

When I am not being Mummy or blogging then I am working in finance. Definately not as glam as it sounds but I actually really like my day job.

What is your blog called and where can we find it?

My blog is called My Mummy Spam and you can find it at http://www,, And yes…it is a strange name to have for a blog.

I often get asked why |I used the word spam in the name as it is normally associated with a bad thing but I found that I was filing my facebook with baby spam when bubba was born and seeing as not everyone wants to know what my baby had for breakfast or that he giggled, I decided to find my own little piece of the internet and baby spam to my hearts content over there.

What’s your blog about?

My Mummy Spam is mainly about my experience as a Mum and my life with my husband and our little boy. I have recently branched into vlogging as well as blogging which is hard work but I love it!

Why did you start blogging?

I started my little blog in April 2015. I still can’t believe it has been going for over a year!

Why do you still blog?

I continue to blog because to me, blogging is like my online diary where I can record all of the wonderful and exciting things that happen in my life.

It means that in years to come when bubba is a stroppy teenager I can look back and read about how wonderful he was when he was a baby and reminisce rather than deal with a hormonal teen 🙂

How has blogging changed since you started?

This is a difficult one. I don’t think blogging itself has changed but I do think that my style of blogging has. As time has gone on I have become a lot more aware of the technical side of blogging and my blog style reflects that. I don’t think my style of writing has changed but my presentation and the promotion of my blog definitely has.

Would you count your blog as a job or something fun to do in your spare time?

When I first started I saw it as something fun to do in my spare time but now I would say I see it as work and that isn’t a bad thing. I love writing and (sometimes!!) getting paid for it just makes it that little bit more rewarding.

Just because I say it is work doesn’t make it a bad thing.

Where do you get the inspiration to write a blog post?

I write about the things that I feel are important to me and my life. It sounds a bit selfish when I write it down in black and white like that but the way I see it is that My Mummy Spam is my little world so why write about anything else but the things that inspire and motivate me?

If you could recommend three other blogs to read, what three would you recommend and why?

This is a really difficult one as I read so many blogs but if I had to pick 3 I would say:

Hi baby -  I would say Hannahs blog because she is so honest and funny. I love her vlogs as well (she has the best accent!!)

Inside Martyns Thoughts -  Martyn I one of the loveliest guys I have ever met and I don’t believe he has a bad bone in his body. His blog is so honest and he writes about things that are really important to him and I love that.

Tales & Tea - Faye writes amazing blog posts! She may not write that often but I know that when she does, it is an amazing thing! I love her outlook on things and the way she writes so openly about her life and her experiences.

What is the single best thing that has come about as a result of your blog?

There have been some pretty exciting opportunities come from my blog but the best thing for me has been the amazing community that I have found from blogging.

I made ‘online friends’ that have become my ‘actual friends’ and I probably talk to them more than I speak to my other friends. I actually write  blog post about it here:  (shameless self-promotion!)

What would be your perfect blog post?

My perfect blog posts to read are the ones that are filled with tumbler worthy photos! I love those and wish I could be that arsty!! My perfect blog post to write…that’s a really difficult one as I don’t think I have one.

What can you recommend to other bloggers to increase the traffic to their sites?

Haha!! I am not a good person to answer this question as my traffic isn’t bad but I don’t know what I do to make it that way. I suppose if I had to give some advice then I would say just write from your heart. If you are writing honest, engaging content then people will read it.

Which brands do you enjoy working with?

I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic brands but I have to say that my favourite were Kiddylicious as they were so thoughtful and sent me a little box of goodies when they knew I was going to be staying away from Bubba for the night.

It was a total surprise and they sent me some travel cosmetics, a little candle and a beautiful framed picture of me and Bubba. For me, it’s the little personal touches that I love about working with brands.

Everyone has that one company that they have always wanted to work with but have never quite been able to. Who is yours?

Disney!!! Without a shadow of a doubt.

We are huge Disney fans in this household and I would love to work with them some day. Bubba is obsessed with Disney Junior and loves Mickey Mouse Club House!

I would love to work with them one day but I think it will be a dream for a very long time!

What is your own personal favourite post on your site?

This post about my beloved Grandfather Brissy. He passed away when Bubba was 5 months old and I felt so disjointed.

In one breath I was deliriously happy as Bubs had just hit a new milestone or done something new but in the next breath, I felt an overwhelming sadness that I was feeling so happy about something when someone I love so much had been taken from me.

It was a hard post to write but was almost therapeutic.

Whose blog would you love to be featured on or write a guest post for?

I would love to guest post on Martyns blog (inside Martyns mind) as I love his writing style and know that his readers are very vocal and like to make themselves and their opinions known (which I love!) but he is a damn good writer so I don’t know if I would be able to reach his standards 🙂

Lastly, if you were to interview another blogger, what question would you ask that I haven’t asked here?…

Something totally random and non-blog related… I would ask ‘tell me a secret about you!’

… And what is your answer to that question?

Hahaha! I should have read down the page before answer the previous question. A secret about me would be that until I was about 18 years old, I thought that squirrels laid eggs because they lived in trees like birds!!

Thanks for taking part!
