Review: Avantek Portable Massage Pillow MP-11B
There’s been many a day where I have said I’ve needed a massage. Those days are getting more frequent as I creep through my late 30s. So when I had a chance to review the Avantek Portable Massage Pillow, I was never going to turn it down.

I’m always wary of massage products. Many of them over promise and under deliver.
When I saw that it was a portable unit, I had visions of needing several batteries or a never-ending need to charge it.
In fact, the unit comes supplied with a mains lead and plug, as well as a car plug which plugs into the cigarette lighter of the car. Both have fairly short leads (around 3′ to 4′ long each), but these have been fine for me when I have been using it.
Although it narrows down the definition of “portable”, the massager itself is primarily designed for use at home or in the car, and it’s ideal for that.
I was expecting a soft, vibrating massager but this item is fairly robust. With four built-in rotating and kneading massage rollers, you really feel as if your back is being properly massaged.
Offering three different modes: Warm massage one direction, warm massage another direction and unheated massage, the massage rollers change direction every 60 seconds so you can really make the most of your massage.
Each mode is activated by the click of the only button on the unit, which means that you need to continually press it to cycle through the different modes.
It’s also well-built, allowing you to really sink into your seat with the massager behind you without fear of it breaking.
A built-in safety feature cuts the massager off after 15 minutes so that it doesn’t overheat, though even when using the heated mode I can’t say that the unit ever got overly hot.
The description calls this a neck massager, but in truth, I’ve used it more on my lower back without any issues at all.
I’m pleased to say that this is a very welcome addition to the house and has been used regularly since purchase.
The only downsides would be the short cables and the 15-minute run time, although in truth neither of these have been a big problem for me, hence giving it five stars.

Looks brilliant, especially with the option for a heated massage. I’ve got a full size one of these but the idea of having a portable one in the car is rather good.
My mother in law has something ever similar that i have used. Definitely a handy product to have.
I need one of those, especially when in front of my laptop. I do love a good massage! 🙂

I have chronic back issues and according to my physio I have the back of a 50 year old but its starting to affect the rest of my body too. I have something similar to this that you can control but I need a massage chair that would do the trick although this looks good too.
Sitting here with backache, this sounds like something I need!

I could do with one of these although I find the heated seat in the car also helps with my back.

I like the sound of this. I think I’m reaching an age where an occasional massage would be beneficial and I would be willing to give this a try I think from what you’ve said
I have one of these, but the full version with a back and everything. I recently saw this type of thing and it was advertised as being suitable for the car (like in your photo) – have you tried it while driving? I can’t decide if it’s going to be relaxing or dangerously distracting.
It’s recommended to NOT use while driving, and to be honest, I’d find it too dangerous to do that!

Thanks for the review . I suffer from occasional lower back pain and I’ve found that using this pillow, particularly with the heating enabled, really does help
