Essex Chronicle - Why is Sir Simon Burns MP so disliked?
You only need to do a quick Google search these days to see what people are saying about any given subject. I had reason to talk about my local MP, Sir Simon Burns, during the week and was surprised at how much vitriol there is for him.
It just so happened that a day or two later he announced that he would be stepping down from his position at the next election, giving someone else a chance to run in Chelmsford, so it seems like an ideal time to talk about him here.
I’ve had exchanges with him in the past.
Enough exchanges to know that we will never see eye to eye on many issues. But it shocks me that so many people seem unhappy with him…

I live in the north and have never had a good experience with local MPs, I met with one once and he ask for opinions on the local town and what we think he should do to make it better and he didn’t do a thing towards making any of it happen. Now we have a new MP after the previous election and I haven’t heard about anything he’s done either. I feel better knowing that I didn’t vote for him!

We live in a society of apathy. People moan, but do nothing that actually changes anything, no-one wants to stand up and be counted.

I’ve just had the full experience of meeting Sir Simon Burns to put our view forwards to him at Portcullis House. I cannot say either way as to whether it did any good but I can rest easier knowing we did something rather than nothing.
I think that’s the thing for me. Regardless of whether it works the way you want it to, as long as you are putting your point across then that’s the main thing. Well done to you for doing so!
