Premier Inn are set to open a new hotel: Premier Inn Chelmsford Central.
by DannyUK
Despite having a hotel in North Chelmsford, Premier Inn are set to open within walking distance of Chelmsford Train station.
The decision to open a Premier Inn Chelmsford central, which will be the second hotel for the chain in Chelmsford, is a growing indication of the city effect beginning to take hold. Following on from Dunkin Donuts choosing the only city in Essex to be it’s first non-London location, as well as the planned John Lewis and Waitrose developments, it looks like the city is finally on the up in terms of stepping away from a town mentality.
The new hotel, which is named in architectural drawings on the Chelmsford City planning website, will no doubt draw custom away from the County Hotel and the Atlantic, both of which are a five minute walk from the station.
Personally, I welcome the move. Premier Inn is a well known brand, and although it offers a basic room without any frills, it should start to bring more visitors to the city, which is only a positive thing. It is also set to be part of a small transformation in Victoria Road which will see Amlin with a new Head Office as well as Waitrose finally take over the Royal Mail site in the next couple of years.
Hi, sorry; “small” development?! I walked past what I think you’re talking about, on Saturday & that thing is HUGE! I nearly had reverse vertigo watching the cranes swing huge rsj’s out over the road to manoeuvre them into positron. Impressive stuff though π x
I think there are several developments in a row, giving the impression that there’s one big hotel going up, which isn’t the case π
I think it would be cool if they made a hotel premier inn as a sky scraper like the height of the bus station apartments. I would impress people when they see premier take to the skies as they pass through chelmsford city on a train or bus. And the windows in the amlin building would have a nice reflection on the chelmer valley park and ride buses.
