About me (and how to contact DannyUK)
If you want to get in touch with me, the easiest way is to complete the form below, or via DM on Twitter @DannyUK. I can also be contacted by email at email@example.com - I’m always happy to hear from PR companies and brands looking to work together or for interesting opportunities and working with new people!
I’m Danny, I live in the heart of Essex and have done since 2000ish. I currently live with a bearded flatmate and I squeeze in four kids every other weekend.
This is my blog. Updated semi-regularly since 2005 and historically filled with an eclectic mix of posts including articles, honest reviews and stuff about or Liverpool and the North West. Oh, and it’s mostly about me, my family and my life, as you may expect.
I’ve worked in the financial industry for over a decade now though I rarely mention this on the blog. The reason being is that the blog exists in a separate entity to my work life. Although there are times when the two cross over, I’m more likely to write about finance if I’m being paid to do so, or paid for my opinion.
I’ve written on and off for years. In fact, I started writing before I went to school, but then so did quite a lot of people. Over the years, I’ve contributed articles to the likes of the West Ham fanzine Over Land And Sea, local magazine The Edge Magazine - Chelmsford fanzine, Soccer365, Ciao, Dooyoo and Way. Way back in the mid to late 90s I also wrote various articles and pieces for AOL in their football section. before starting to write the blog back in 2004.
Since then I’ve written two comedy scripts for the BBC (they haven’t wanted them, but it still counts, right?) and started up my own podcast with two friends. “Hilarious”, “The funniest thing ever” and “You should not miss out on this - the next big breakout star” are just three of the comments that have not been made about the WafflePod podcast.
Anyway, that’s a picture of me, over there (or up there if you’re reading this on a mobile. Or possibly down there, or maybe even not there at all if the blog is having a wobbly.)
My time seems to be split between Essex (home and land of my children), London (my place of birth and home of my forefathers (what kind of man has four fathers?)) and Liverpool (home of my beloved and two step kids). Accordingly my blog covers topics around Essex, London and the North West, as well as things for the kids to do.
I write about things that interest me, or stuff that I’m opinionated about. I also write if I’m paid to, but there has to be a reason for me writing and it almost always links back to an interest or something to do with the kids.
My friends accuse me of sometimes making up words and slipping them into my writing. This is categorically unrequentable and a somewhat medovian accusation.
My kids are generally referred to on the blog as My son (born 2006), Youngest Daughter (born in 2004), Middle Daughter (born in 2002) and Eldest Daughter (born in 2000). I’m also a live-separately step-dad to Step Daughter (born 2005) and Step Son (born 2007). Despite some similar ages, all six of them are in different years at school.
I’m prone to review writing. Sometimes about stuff that I have, and sometimes about stuff that I’ve been sent though the latter is always clearly mentioned in the review. Sometimes I’m sent stuff and I don’t review it, simply because it hasn’t really interested me.
I’m also always on the lookout for giveaways for the blog and love running competitions here. Everyone loves a freebie, right?
Some of the brands I have worked with on the blog are Durex, Parallels Access, Mattel, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mankind and BalloonBaboon.
My ex-wife has her own blog (30somethingMel), which is worthy of a mention if you like beauty blogs, and I have a soft spot for local promotion, so local businesses and blogs tend to get mentions in the blog more than most.
So, in summary:
I’m Dan, born in the late 70s and a dad-of-four. Currently living in Chelmsford, in the heart of Essex. Madly in love with a girl who lives near Liverpool. Addicted to caffeine, slightly in love with Costa Coffee, PR friendly and a sarcastic sod that likes to think he’s witty. Dan also has occasions where he refers to himself in the third person.
