It’s gone. It’s left. It’s disappeared without even so much as a goodbye. My blogging mojo has well and truly scarpered.
It’s not the first time it’s happened, of course. I can look back through however many years the blog has been going (11? 12? Perhaps more than that) and there are vast swathes of time when nothing has been written.
But in recent times I’ve always had something to say.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s been some activity here. Not huge amounts, but bits and pieces like reviewing the Beano store goodies or writing up a night out at Chop Bloc in Chelmsford.
But nothing personal.
Nothing that has coursed through my body, out of my fingertips and into words on the screen because I’ve felt compelled to write. I’ve barely even had any strong opinions recently. At least that’s how it has felt.
Maybe it’s the time of the year. I hate December. The rush towards Christmas. The over-commercialisation of everything. The sheer expense for what amounts to about 30 minutes of unwrapping on 25th.
I dislike the fact that it’s dark by 5pm, and that the nights feel like they go on forever. I’ve even blogged about the Winter Solstice being the best day of the year simply because it marks the turning point towards warmer days and brighter evenings.
For anyone that has asked, I have blamed work for my lack of writing. Work. The thing that pays the bills. I love my job, but bloody Hell does it keep me busy.
I’ve given thought to writing something work related. Why people should consider getting their CeMAP qualification, or perhaps what the benefits are to remortgaging. The truth is, if I’m going to be doing something work-related, I may as well make it work. I get paid more for it.
A lack of blog posts is also a direct reflection of how short of money I am at the moment. Being laid off just before Christmas last year has had a long-lasting effect on my savings which in turn has meant fewer days out, fewer adventures and fewer blog posts.
Maybe 2017 will see my blogging mojo pick up again. Until then, I’m almost forcing myself to write something. Anything. Just to get some words on paper. Simply to fill a blog post.
But it’s not working too well.
