Bearded Backchat with Kate from Family Fever
Bearded Backchat is a chance for me to interview PR people and fellow bloggers. This week it’s Kate from Family Fever.
Who are you?
What is your “day job”?
Blogger and student midwife to be!
What is your blog called and where can we find it?
Family Fever – http://myfamilyfever.co.uk
What’s your blog about?
Parenting, family life and outdoor fun. I also run the popular #TriedTested linky where people can share their reviews.
When did you start blogging?
Why do you still blog?
It started as an online diary of my kids lives, and I don’t want to lose that now – especially as we have had a couple of babies since I started!
How has blogging changed since you started?
It has become a lot more competitive from what I can see – there are SO many blogs offering similar styles topics. However – we are all individuals, and there is a space on the web for us everyone.
Would you count your blog as a job or something fun to do in your spare time?
A bit of both. It is a job, in that it earns me a part time wage. But it is also fun to do – if I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t keep going. It’s not the easiest way to earn money by any stretch of the imagination, so there has to be a fun element too.
It has ignited a passion for photography in me, and that’s my ‘fun’ element – although encouraging small children to pose for the perfect photo isn’t always as fun as it sounds!
Where do you get the inspiration to write a blog post?
Often from other blogs. I read a lot of other posts, and often one of those will spark an opinion in me. This could be related to the original topic, or something totally different that it has made me think of.
If you could recommend three other blogs to read, what three would you recommend and why?
1. Oh So Amelia – This blog is my peaceful space. It is so calming to look at, easy to read and is full of the most amazing blogger tips!
2. Midwife and Life – I have been following this blog for a good few months now. I have enjoyed reading about how Jenny feels about a mixture of topics, from midwifery related posts to her touching stories about her children.
3. The Dadventurer – My feel good blog that never fails to make me laugh. Dave’s tales of life with a toddler have me nodding along and make me feel I am not alone in this crazy parenthood journey.
What is the single best thing that has come about as a result of your blog?
Being able to work from home, which allows me to be around to watch my children grow up. For that I will always be grateful.
What would be your perfect blog post?
A holiday post, getting the chance to travel to somewhere amazing like Disney World, Florida. A real once in a lifetime thing.
What can you recommend to other bloggers to increase the traffic to their sites?
Just keep writing great content, and don’t let the stats bog you down. The numbers aren’t the be all and end all – if you write things that touch people, things that people want to read and share, then you are doing a great job as a blogger!
Which brands do you enjoy working with?
I have worked with Bump PR for a few years now, and they are fantastic – they have a few relevant clients, and always go out of their way to be helpful, professional and friendly. Can’t rate them highly enough.
I also have a great relationship with the iCandy team, having worked with them a few times now. The lady I work with there often emails just to see how we all are and ask after the children.
Everyone has that one company that they have always wanted to work with but have never quite been able to. Who is yours?
I would absolutely love to work with Stokke. I have admired their products from afar for many years, and jump at the chance to see them in real life – I spent a LONG time at their stand the last time I went to The Baby Show. I have even been known to stop someone in the street just to have a closer look at their Stokke pram.
Their products seem the perfect combination of style and practicality, and I would give my right arm to get my hands on something, just to see if they are as magnificent as I think they are!
What is your own personal favourite post on your site?
One of the posts I wrote recently about tops tips to recover from a caeserian has had a great reception, and I am so pleased as it’s a topic I feel we should talk about more!
Whose blog would you love to be featured on or write a guest post for?
I would love the chance to have a post featured on The Huffington Post or Mumsnet – it’s like the Holy Grail of blogging!
Lastly, if you were to interview another blogger, what question would you ask that I haven’t asked here?…
How do you manage to fit blogging into your family life? Do you have a set routine or do you prefer a more ad hoc approach?
… And what is your answer to that question?
I manage to get some work done when my eldest 2 are at school, and my toddler goes to nursery 3 mornings a week.
However, this is getting harder as the baby gets older and naps less and less….so if anyone has some great suggestions that don’t involve me getting up at 5am, I would love to hear them!
Thanks for taking part, Kate!
