Bearded Backchat with Jade from Raising the Rings

Bearded Backchat is a chance for me to interview PR people and fellow bloggers.  This week I talk to Jade from Raising the Rings

Raising the Rings blog header

Who are you?

I’m just Jade I guess!

What is your “day job”?

I guess my non-official title would be something like “Modern Day Slave”. I’m a mum of two boys and I run my own social media management company as well as running my blog.

“Modern-day slave” is just another term for parent, isn’t it? What is your blog called and where can we find it?

Raising the Rings (www.raisingtherings.com)

What’s your blog about?

Anything I can find to talk about really. Mostly parenting and lifestyle, but there’s a mix of everything on there I guess! Look out for interiors and weddings in the future.

Why did you start blogging?

So I don’t have to talk to my other half in the evening. Only kidding (sometimes). It was a way for me to document our life, vent about other things and to show those that read it that they’re not alone in their thoughts.

Ha!  I love the first answer! Why do you still blog?

Because it’s insanely addictive. Despite it being an absolute pain in the bum sometimes, I love doing it. I love looking back at what I’ve read, I love reading the comments, the debates it can spark, the friendships you can make, the things you get to do. It’s all so incredible really.

How has blogging changed since you started?

I think that blogging in the last year or so has catapulted to a whole other level.

So many more people are starting blogs, most not for the right reasons, but blogging is slowly becoming one of the most prominent platforms for spreading the word about businesses and the like.

These days you really have to have a niche to get anywhere with it as most of the markets are quite saturated, but if you work hard enough you will reap rewards.

Ahhhh. niches.  My blogging niche is “random rubbish”.  Would you count your blog as a job or something fun to do in your spare time?

Well it started out as a hobby. I never knew you could monetise it, or grow it such amazing numbers.

I didn’t even know what stats or anything were, I was literally the world’s least bloggy person ever. Now it’s my job! I even do it for other people and companies too!

Where do you get the inspiration to write a blog post?

Everywhere. I just look around. If I’m really struggling I’ll look in my notebook which will just have random thoughts jotted down and I’ll pick something and make something from it.

I try and remember why I wrote it in the first place. I could read another blog and feel like I have an opinion that isn’t quite the same as theirs and I’ll write my view.

General everyday life and I feel like joining in with certain linkys helps with producing posts, especially if they’re on a specific topic.

If you could recommend three other blogs to read, what three would you recommend and why?

Oh god, this is so hard. I love reading the lesser popular blogs. I can’t possibly pick though, I’m really sorry! There are just too many. I think this may call for a “Blogs I Love” feature on my blog!

Boooo!  What a way to avoid the question.  You should be a politician lol.  What is the single best thing that has come about as a result of your blog?

Without a doubt the friends I’ve made. They just “get it” and I get them and I love them so much!

What would be your perfect blog post?

Ooh this is so hard too. The perfect blog post for me would be a holiday review I think. That’s kind of my blogging goal. A week away with the kids somewhere would be marvellous.

I’d be ecstatic if I got a holiday abroad but equally happy with somewhere like Haven, Park Resorts and Butlins.

What can you recommend to other bloggers to increase the traffic to their sites?

Promotion, promotion, promotion. Your blog won’t share itself so you need to join in with linkys, comment on other blogs, share it in relevant groups and do it across as many social media platforms as possible.

I don’t exactly practice what I preach though, it’s a lot of hard work!

Which brands do you enjoy working with?

I really love working with all brands. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some big brands, but also lots of smaller ones and I’m always on the lookout for new people to work with.

I haven’t had any yet that I don’t ever want to work with again.

Cosatto were really lovely to work with and their pushchair designs are obviously very unique.

I’m a brand ambassador for a couple of smaller ones - Childs Farm and From Babies With Love and they’re just a dream to work with.

Everyone has that one company that they have always wanted to work with but have never quite been able to. Who is yours?

I would really love to work with any holiday company. Whether it’s skiing, or a summer holiday, who wouldn’t want that?

What is your own personal favourite post on your site?

My favourite post on the blog would probably be Backstabbing Bloggers.

It’s a bit of a rubbish read because of the topic but I actually felt like I was standing up for myself in the blogging world and the comments I got were wonderful.

It just goes to show that when one person tries to bring you down, 100 others will bring you back up and it just shows a real sense of community – and why I love the people I’ve met!

Whose blog would you love to be featured on or write a guest post for?

I’d love to guest post for quite a lot, but it’s always about finding the time I guess.

Interviews like this are easy because I’m being asked the questions, but having to come up with a whole post is a whole lot of work sometimes.

I’d probably love to guest post for Donna (What The Redhead Said). I love her!

EVERYONE loves Donna. she’s fab.  In fact, she was the first person I asked to appear in this series of interviews. (Cheap plug; read the interview with Donna here!)

Lastly, if you were to interview another blogger, what question would you ask that I haven’t asked here?…

I’d probably ask what you like to do in your spare time.. and how on Earth you manage to have any spare time?

… And what is your answer to that question?

I play netball on a Tuesday evening and I’ve decided that to get some more spare time, I’ve hired a cleaner – hurray! Sparkly house and more time with the kiddies and to write blog stuff.

My other “spare time” is coming into work, I love that day and a half away.

Thanks for taking part, Jade!  I think that everyone should get a cleaner if possible.  It’s amazing how much cleaner my flat is when I’ve had cleaners in, and it also saves so much time and effort!
