Chop Bloc and Bloc Bar - Steak, burgers and cocktails
Chelmsford’s newest restaurant, Chop Bloc, opened its doors for a launch party recently, and I was lucky enough to be there.
As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I was absurdly excited about the prospect of visiting the new restaurant for the official launch.
Originally scheduled to open in late 2014, the launch was delayed a couple of times before the steakhouse finally opened in the early part of 2015. Since then, almost all reviews of it have been positive.

Arriving at the launch, I had the opportunity to have a look around. Taking over the former premises of Field and Trek and the old Early Learning Centre shop, the £2m project has transformed the space into a modern and well laid out unit.
Housing a cocktail bar (called the Bloc Bar) on the top floor, there is room on the ground and first floor for diners to sit and enjoy their meals.

The decor is very smart and complements the steak offering well.
But what was the food like, I hear you ask?
Well, I wish I could tell you.
After practically starving myself all day, I rocked up to the launch with a friend intending to eat my bodyweight in steak. It was immediately obvious from the sheer volume of people present that dinner was, ironically, not on the menu.
The launch party was merely to show off the premises, and with local guests invited there were familiar faces in the crowd, from fellow bloggers such as Andrea from AndreaFarmerArt.co.uk and Jo and Darren from Your Community Hub, to the likes of local publicans such as Brett from the Golden Fleece (which recently had a makeover of its own) and Mick, the Manager of High Chelmer shopping centre.
Part of the wine selection
The premises look fantastic, it has to say, and if the canapes are anything to go by then the food there will be delicious too.
