“Who is that witty guy?”

“Who is that witty guy?”

That’s the comment a friend of mine got when he booted up his MSN round a friend’s house, and they saw my MSN name “If I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair… I’d have had my head kicked in”

Weirdly, the comment made me happier than if someone had said I was good looking. Why? Probably because I know there’s more chance of it being true.

And so ends half a week where I’ve had the hump and been down for no real reason. I just hope that by the time I get to work later and the week starts again I’ll be in a better and more positive frame of mind.

It’s the time of year to start thinking about football again. Yes, I know that the World Cup feels like it has only just finished, but the new season kicks off in the Premier League in two weeks (though the Championship and other lower leagues have started already).

Being a West Ham fan, I’m hopeful that having reached the FA Cup Final last season, and having a top half finish, we’ll be able to do similar again this time around. I truly believe that in Pardew we have one of the best managers around, and he is certainly a future England manager.

So what do I want to achieve this season? Well, obviously I want us to win everything, but realistically I’ll be happy if we can keep mid-table obscurity for another season.

Last year was our first in the Premier League for two years, and we defied all the odds and certainly all the critics by not only staying up, but doing so playing attacking football. This season will be harder as everyone knows who we are, how we play and what we can do.

We’ll hopefully see a few West Ham players step up to play for England, starting with Dean Ashton.

It’s also fantasy football time, and for the second year in a row I’ll be playing against a friend from work, and will be trying hard not to finish second-bottom like I did last year!

Anyway, it’s a Monday and I’m due to be at work this week, so I need to wrap up this entry. Having only had 1½ days off this week, the sitcom has gone by the wayside. I need to get my arse in gear on that one.
